Early Modern Period

1450-1750: The relationship between Norway and the Netherlands is characterized by significant naval & economic connections, driven by the Dutch Republic's dominance in trade & shipping, including a vital route to the northern Norwegian coast. Norway, under the Danish crown, participated in this trade, while the Dutch, a leading maritime power, benefited greatly. This relationship laid the groundwork for the strong political, economic, & cultural ties that exist between the two nations today. 
 
The design of this bowl is inspired by the iconography of both countries during the period.
